Forest Service Seeking Comments On Its Appeal Process

Your Government counsel.™

The US Forest Service is seeking comments on its procedure for appealing decisions the agency makes related to the occupancy or use of National Forest System lands, such as the award or denial of special use permits.  While the agency is seeking these comments because it is required to under law, the request provides an opportunity for interested parties to comment on any issues or concerns they may have with the agency’s appeal process.  The notice indicates that the agency receives about 20 appeals each year, and it estimates that appellants spend about 8 hours of time preparing and following through with their appeals.  If you have been involved in the appeal process and these estimates are not consistent with your experience, you may want to provide feedback to the agency for their consideration.
