The US Forest Service is seeking comments on its proposed regulation regarding how it implements the National Environmental Policy Act, and specifically, categorical exclusions under that law. The agency notes that the proposed changes are an effort to increase the agency’s efficiency with regard to environmental analyses. By increasing its efficiency with these analyses, the agency believes it can better address the backlog it has of more than 5,000 applications for new permits or renewals of existing permits. Comments are due by August 12, 2019.
