National Park Service Seeking Input On Its Plans To Modernize Campgrounds

Your Government counsel.™

The National Park Service (NPS) recently issued a draft of its Campground Design Guide.  The agency is preparing the guide due to growing interest in expanding and supporting public recreational access and the agency’s need to fully understand, optimally manage, and strategically invest in campgrounds throughout the NPS.  The Guide is intended to centralize the agency’s campground design information, such as spatial requirements for RV use, and serve as a clearinghouse of best practices.  The contents of the draft guide are based on the agency’s discussions with all other federal land agencies as well as state park authorities.

The specific question NPS is asking existing concessioners and others is:

What changes, deletions or additions do you think are needed in the campground design guide? Please be as specific as possible and indicate page numbers or sections as needed.

A copy of the draft design guide is available here, as well as at this link.

Comments are due by December 4, 2020 and can be submitted here.
